The tasks of a janitor might differ depending on whether he or she works in a college in Los Angeles or an apartment block in Atlanta. Janitorial services are usually outsourced since it is easier for many institutions to have a company specializing in janitorial services deal with the intricacies of the job. As mentioned before, a custodian is often better trained that a janitor and his job may also entail maintenance, security and technical aspects.

No matter if a person lives in New York, Tokyo or Atlanta, janitorial services are necessary. These people ensure that everyone works in a clean environment and should be lauded not looked down upon. Janitors have had many appearances and are often the memorable characters in movies and games. From bumbling Roger Wilco in Space Quest, to irate Groundskeeper Willy in The Simpsons to the evil Mr. Filch in Harry Potter, janitors are part and parcel of the world. Do not ignore them, thank them for the job they are doing.
